The one-day workshop "Measuring recency and frequency effects in diachronic and synchronic corpus data" is aimed at master and doctoral students, as well as post-doctoral researchers. The workshop brings together researchers working on the influence of recency and frequency on processes of language change and language processing in Spanish, English and German. It addresses both the methodological problem of measuring frequency and recency in corpus data and theoretical ramifications of the concepts of frequency and recency.

Programme:

09:00-09:45 Scott Schwenter: Priming and morphosyntactic variation

09:45-10:30 Anne Krause: Frequency and recency effects in an assumed change-in-progress

10:30-11:00 Coffee break

11:00-11:45 Malte Rosemeyer & Scott Schwenter: Priming and entrenchment in language change: the Spanish past subjunctive

11:45-12:30 David Lorenz: How does speech rate relate to word frequency and recency? A work-in-progress report

12:30-13:15 Karolina Rudnicka: Barely explored landscapes of grammatical obsolescence in English
