The loss of intervocalic /d/ in spoken Spanish is one of the most important and best-studied subjects in Hispanic Linguistics, both from a diachronic and a synchronic point of view. Many factors of change have been proposed to explain the evolution of the consonant, although frequency of use has been notably under-discussed. Also, there is no exhaustive research on the current situation of the phenomenon analysed from a dialectological (not just sociolinguistic) point of view for the whole Iberian Peninsula. Thus, my goal is to analyse the current situation of the phenomenon in the Iberian Peninsula with a particular emphasis on the role of word and context frequency (individually and in connection with other factors).

I will base my analysis on data from the Atlas Lingüístico de la Península Ibérica (Linguistic Atlas of the Iberian Peninsula), collected in the first third of the 20th century, and the Corpus Oral y Sonoro del Españo Rural (Audible Corpus of Rural Spoken Spanish), which has data from 1990 to the present. Comparison of the data from both corpora will reveal whether there have been changes in the geographical distribution of the loss and therefore to ascertain the direction of the change in different contexts.
